TCP/IP for transputer.

Is there anybody with interest in embedded transputer solution
with a TCP/IP connection ?

Any knowledge about it ?

TORDIVEL are in cooperation with Sundance investigating the possibilities
of making such a solution a nice price.

Actually CORAL in England have a very nice size 2 ethernet tram
that does this already. It boots for a piggybacked size 1 EPROM tram
and from there can control and boot a system via the subsystem port.
The only drawback is that the ethernet tram is a bit pricey.

CORAL can be reached at (0252) 333 777. Talk to Andy Ward.

I have zero affiliation with them except as a happy customer of their
groovy size 1 flash EEPROM tram.

To my knowledge there there are already at least two solutions
to this problem:
- The INMOS B300 is a Link-to-Ethernet box which runs TCP/IP and
allow you to acces your transputers from a TCP/IP system.
  A bit expensive.
- PCserver is a public domain software which does the same as above
by using a PC motherboard, an ethernet card and one or more
  transputer board/link adapters.

You said embedded: don't know for the B300 (but it cannot be this big),
but PC motherboards are quite small nowadays (and you can even use a
laptop).

This is very thru. It makes it impossible for example to put 100 of these
boxes as a part of a ships control system. ( it would then be
the most expensive ship control system in the world ).

I would be interested to know where to get more information about this.

This is too big and expensive compared to the solution I see.
I see a solution where a large number of "small clusters of transputers" are connected
to a higher level computer like WorkStations and PCs.
And one they we can talk to these transputers on the INTERNET !!

Our company has been working on a TCP/IP software package for the
transputer for some time. This will run on the transputer, not the
host. Yes, it will allow a transputer network to communicate across the
Internet.

The cheapest possibility to connect a transputer network to a TCP/IP
network is to extend the iserver protocol. The iserver translate the
messages coming from the host transputer to the appropriate socket
system calls. You can write a library with calls which are similar
to the socket functions (e.g. socket(), bind(), accept() ....).

We have done this only for the TCP protocol and it works good.

how does your solution compare with the B300 box offered by Inmos?
