Hi,

I am investigating some issues that may be associated with Symmetric
Multiprocessing (SMP) architectures. In particular, I am interested in the
position of industry leaders with respect to application development on an SMP.
I am interested in the following types of information.

(1) Should application developers avoid constraining processes to a particular
CPU in the SMP (i.e., allow the OS to make the determination in "real-time")?

(2) Does the definition of SMP become ASMP when the number of constrained (to a
CPU) processes equals the number of processes in the application?

(3) Is there an industry standard definition of SMP?

(4) Have there been any detailed comparison studies done between ASMP and SMP?
If so, are they available in the public domain?

(5) Are there any detailed texts available on the market which delve into the
low-level issues of application development on an SMP?

Any information of this nature would prove to be extremely useful. If this is
the wrong newsgroup, perhaps someone could suggest a more appropriate one? Thank
you in advance.

Regards,

Greg
