Technical Computing Contest!

Digital Equipment Corporation is sponsoring a contest for software
developers, designed to stretch the limits of computing as we know it
today. The contest is co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing
Center (PSC), a joint project of Carnegie Mellon University and the
University of Pittsburgh together with Westinghouse Electric
Corporation.

Description

The contest, comprising two divisions, will be run on Digital's latest
high performance system, the AlphaServer 8400 5/300 computer, and will
be accessible to entrants over the INTERNET. A cash prize of $8,400
will be awarded to the winner in each division at the SuperComputing
'95 conference in December in San Diego.

The two contest divisions include a High Performance Fortran (HPF)
contest, designed to push the limits of HPF in developing parallel
applications, and a contest designed to make use of the AlphaServer
8400 5/300 technology in a way that advances scientific research. Here
are the official rules:

"Digital has put supercomputer power within reach of most
organizations with its AlphaServer 8400 system," said Pauline Nist,
vice president of Digital's Server Business Unit and contest sponsor.
"This contest is designed to allow the best and brightest software
designers to let their imaginations run wild and submit their most far
reaching proposals as entries."
