               ASSOCIATE or ASSISTANT PROFESSOR 
        IN COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE/COMPUTER ORGANIZATION

The University of Aizu, Japan, invites applications for the 
position of Associate or Assistant Professor in the Hardware Department. 
The position requires an excellent research record with emphasis on 
computer architecture/computer organization and CAD tools.

Responsibilities include 
* conducting research and  design 
* advising undergraduate, Mc.S and Ph.D. students 
* teaching undergraduate and graduate classes. 
Teaching is conducted in English. Knowledge of Japanese is NOT 
required (although is helpful). 

The University of Aizu is the University in Computer Science. It contains 
Hardware and Software departments, Language, Mathematical and Cultural 
Centers. Established as the first Japanese research university in 1993 
with positions open to world-class faculty, the University of Aizu attracted
top researchers and educators from 16 countries around the world.  It 
has a nice campus and computer facilities (about 1000 workstations). 
Teaching is in Japanese and in English. 
Special language center masters students in English. 
University has strong research groups in Computer graphics, 
Computer Architecture, Asynchronous Design, Multimedia Systems,
Theoretical Computer Science, Nanoelectronics, etc. 

The University of Aizu is in the scenic vicinity of the Bandai-Asahi
National Park, and is located in Aizu-Wakamatsu City (around 260 km north to 
Tokyo), 
the historical capital of the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture, 
famous for skiing resorts and sake (Japanese rice wine). 

Professors' salaries are regulated by the Fukushima prefecture regulation. 
They are mainly depend on the age of applicant and 
can be roughly estimated within a range 4,000,000 - 6,000,000 
Japanese yen per year for 35-45 aged professors.  
Taxes are low and include essentially 
free medical care and pension contributions. Although life 
is more expansive than in US/Europe, the University provides 
cheap housing in the special faculty housing campus.

Term of employment: 3 years contract with an opportunity for 
continuation of the employment for another 3 years or until retirement. 

Applicants should hold a Ph.D degree in Computer Engineering, 
Electrical Engineering, or closely related area.  Fluency in 
English is required.
