Late last year, we posted the public domain hardware design for PAPERS,
Purdue's Adapter for Parallel Execution and Rapid Synchronization -- a
simple unit that provides very high performance aggregate operations for
fine-grain parallel processing using a cluster of 4 or more workstations
or PCs. Since that time, we have heard of PAPERS clusters being built
at a few other universities, but it is hard to justify building hardware
without being able to play with the system first.

Thus, we have developed a version of the TTL_PAPERS support library that
can run either across 4 machines with the TTL_PAPERS hardware or within
a SINGLE UNIX SYSTEM WITHOUT CUSTOM HARDWARE. TTL_VAPERS, the "virtual"
simulated parallel system, also provides an X-based TCL/TK program that
simulates the TTL_PAPERS front panel and provides interactive debugging
facilities for developing programs that use the PAPERS library.

The new ALPHA RELEASE version of the library, which has been tested
primarily under Linux on 486-based PCs, is described at:

The link for the full public domain source code is also on that page.
Information about the PAPERS project in general is at:
