What is the (subtle?) difference between a Symmetric Multi-Processor and
a shared-memory computer with a small number of processors?

Articles have been using the term SMP for years, but never give a
definition of exactly what they mean by SMP, particularly in regards
to any differences in comparison to a shared-memory computer.

Is there a difference?

Somebody out there must be clear on these definitions.
