INTERDISCIPLINARY CURRICULUM IN MASSIVELY PARALLEL COMPUTING

                            FOR UNDERGRADUATES

Science and computer science educators with an interest in high
performance computing are invited to apply for participation in three
day workshop detailing our interdisciplinary curriculum in parallel
computing for undergraduates.

With the support of the National Science Foundation, we have developed
a sequence of six courses and a laboratory/seminar integrating parallel
computing and computational science, featuring a high performance
computing laboratory and hands-on programming of our Connection Machine
CM-5. The courses are coordinated by the Center for Computational
Science and are offered through the departments of Chemistry, Computer
Science, Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering, and Physics.

The faculty who have developed these courses will present their
materials in lecture/discussion sessions and through laboratory
demonstrations, closing with a panel discussion of the curriculum at
the
end of the workshop. Participants will receive materials developed for
the courses and will be able to explore on-line versions in the
laboratory.

One afternoon session is planned for presentations by workshop
participants about their activities in high performance computing
education. In addition, there will be three presentations by invited
guest speakers (to be announced) on topics related to high performance
computing and education.

WORKSHOP FACULTY:

        Azer Bestavros, Computer Science Department
Richard Brower, Electrical Computer & Systems Engineering
        David Coker, Chemistry Department
Roscoe Giles, Electrical, Computer & Systems Engineering
        Abdelsalam Heddaya, Computer Science Department
        Steven Homer, Computer Science Department
        John Straub, Chemistry Department
        Claudio Rebbi, Physics Department

APPLICATIONS DUE BY MAY 31, 1995:

Applications for participation in the workshop will be accepted from
university educators and scientists who are involved in HPC education
and want to incorporate parallel computing in their efforts.

To apply, please send your curriculum vitae and a letter describing
your
interest and/or involvement in HPC education to the address below.
Although there is no fee for the workshop, the number of participants
is
limited. To guarantee consideration, applications must be received by
May 30, 1995.

A block of rooms in a nearby hotel has been reserved at group rates for
workshop participants traveling from outside the Boston area. We will
be
able to pay for the accommodations of a limited number of participants
based on their application and explanation of their need for support.

Morning refreshments, three lunches and two dinners will be served for
all workshop participants.
