Parallel Programming Position Available at Oregon State University
------------------------------------------------------------------

Job availability: July 1, 1995

This person will be responsible for writing application programs for a
distributed-memory parallel computer based upon SPARC CPUs and Fujitsu 
vector processors.  This person will also work with other users of
the parallel computer.

Required skills: Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of
interacting with potential users of the system, training others in parallel
programming techniques, making presentations to an internal audience, and
interacting positively with upper management.  Independent problem solving;
self-direction.  Experience programming distributed-memory parallel
computers.  Excellent C programming skills.  Excellent code documentation
skills.  Basic understanding of object oriented programming principles.
Basic understanding of principles of vectorizing and parallelizing compilers.

Required background: B.S. degree in computer science or a related field.
Experience programming under SunOS or Solaris.

Desirable: M.S. in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with
Solaris 2.0 or higher.  Experience developing programming tools for parallel
environments.  Experience writing programs under X Windows or Motif.  Some
system administration experience.

Responsibilities: Parallelize application programs to take advantage of 
unique potential of parallel computer.  Teach researchers how to write high
performance parallel programs.  Organize users group.  Develop libraries to
simplify parallel program development and facilitate high-performance
graphics output.  Benchmark programs on a variety of parallel computers.
Serve as back-up system administrator for parallel computer.

Salary range: Depends upon qualifications, but in the low 30s.
