29th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences
              MAUI, HAWAII - JANUARY 3-6, 1996

Power and energy are increasingly limiting the advancement of
technology on the desktop and in embedded applications. This
meeting is a continuation of HICSS-28's successful discussions
and debate on this emerging field. This year's track will
include a unique 2 1/2 day activity in the context of the
larger HICSS-29 conference format. We welcome submissions
of original work and survey papers in the following areas:

o High-level modeling of power and energy
o Low-energy design for PDAs, embedded applications
o Power influences on packaging
o Special-purpose low-power or low-energy designs
o Novel encoding techniques for low-power or low-energy
o Techniques for advanced cooling to enable high performance.
o Microarchitecture issues
o Memory hierarchy issues
o System interconnect issues
o Related topics in device modeling and practical architecture

Papers are invited that may be theoretical, conceptual tutorial or
descriptive in nature. Those papers selected for presentation will
appear in the Conference Proceedings. HICSS-29 is sponsored by the
University of Hawaii. The Conference Proceedings are published by
the IEEE Computer Society.

In addition to the paper sessions, there will a full-day advanced
seminar on topics in low-power/low-energy architecture and design.
There will also be a one-half day open forum for paper authors and
conference participants to discuss the evolution and direction of
this field.

DEADLINES
=========
o Submit your 300-word abstract to the topics listed below as soon as
possible. Feedback on the abstract will be promptly returned by one of
  the minitrack coordinators.
o Eight copies of the manuscript by JUNE 1
o Notification of accepted papers by AUGUST 31
o Camera-ready copies of accepted manuscripts are due by OCTOBER 2

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
=======================
Submit your 300-word abstract and then eight copies of the paper to
either minitrack coordinator (see above).
Electronic submissions are encouraged.

Persons interested in refereeing in these areas are strongly encouraged to
contact either Minitrack chair directly.

Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to the
Minitrack Chairs well in advanced of a full paper. Minitrack Chairs will
provide initial feedback based on the abstract.

Manuscripts should be 22-25 typewritten, double-spaced pages in length. Please
do not send submissions that are significantly shorter or longer than this.
Papers must not have been previously presented or published, nor currently
submitted for journal publication. Each manuscript will be subjected to a
rigorous refereeing process involving at least five reviewers. Manuscripts
should have a title page that includes the title of the paper, full name(s)
of author(s), affiliation(s), complete postal and electronic mail address(es),
telephone and FAX number(s), and a 300-word abstract of the paper.
