The TotalView Debugger from BBN Systems and Technologies is now able to
debug PVM applications on Sun SPARCstations and Digital Alpha systems.

The TotalView debugger is an extremely powerful source-level, GUI-based,
multiprocessor debugger. TotalView has two main advantages for the
distributed systems programmer. First, TotalView allows the developer to
manage and control multiple processes -- even if these processes are
distributed on multiple workstations. Second, TotalView's user interface is
fast, easy to learn and very powerful. In fact, many programmers of single
process applications prefer TotalView for these features alone.

New PVM features include;

Automatic Process Acquisition: TotalView catches processes created by PVM
spawns and is able to attach to all processes in a running PVM application.

        1. If your application calls pvm_spawn() TotalView automatically
starts debugging the new task(s) regardless of the host on which it was
created.

        2. You can easily attach to a running PVM application by diving on
a PVM task listed in the "PVM Tasks and Configuration" window. TotalView
asks if you would like to attach to all related PVM processes.

Group Control of Processes: TotalView puts all tasks in a PVM job in the
same process group. This means that the programmer can use group controls
to start and stop all processes in the application.

Flexible Multi-Process Breakpoints: Action Points (breakpoints and
conditional breakpoints) are automatically shared amongst related processes
which were created using the same executable. This means that if you set a
breakpoint on line 5 of one copy of the executable then it can
automatically be shared with every other copy of the executable in your
application.

A free demo is available through the Internet. To find out how to get a
