Postdoctoral Position
Mathematics and Computer Science Division
Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory invites outstanding candidates to apply
for a postdoctoral research position in the Mathematics and Computer
Science Division.

The successful candidate will become part of a team that is developing
tools and techniques for implementing computationally intensive
climate and weather models on state-of-the-art parallel supercomputers.

Candidates should have expertise in geophysical dynamics to work on
development and analysis of coupled climate models. A strong background
in parallel computing, knowledge of numerical methods, and
experience with message-passing programming in Fortran, C, or C++
is required to work on design and evaluation of new algorithms for
parallel models. Information on the global climate modeling program
in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division can be obtained at
http://www.mcs.anl.gov/Projects/chammp/index.html.

The Mathematics and Computer Science Division supports an excellent
computational environment that includes access to high-performance
scientific workstations, a scientific visualization
and virtual reality laboratory, and state-of-the-art parallel computers
(including a 128-node IBM SP).

Argonne is located in the southwestern Chicago suburbs, offering
the advantages of affordable housing, good schools, and
easy access to the cultural attractions of the city.

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. in computer science or
a related discipline not more than three years
prior to the beginning of the appointment.
The appointment is available immediately for a one-year
term (renewable). Applications should be
addressed to Walter McFall, Box mcs-postdoc8, Employment and
Placement, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 S. Cass Avenue,
Argonne, IL 60439, and must include a resume' and the names and
addresses of three references. For additional information, contact
