Well I figured out I had to use the loopback address about ten minutes after I
posted, thanks to those who pointed out this simple solution.  

I do have another question along these lines.  I'm runinng PVM on a SMP Linux 
box with two CPUs and everything thing seems to work just fine.  What do the
specially configured SMP PVM architechtures (like SGI64MP) offer over the
regular configuration?  Do we need a LINUXMP ?
