JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:		MPP Operating System Coordinator 
ORGANIZATION:	Meiko Federal Systems, Inc.
LOCATION:		On-site at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 
Livermore, CA.

DESCRIPTION:	We are looking for a take charge kind of computer 
science professional to work with a large state of the art scientific 
computer system at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as the 
MPP Operating System Coordinator. The purpose of this assignment is 
to become the point person at the Livermore Laboratory for the 
Meiko CS-2 operating system stabilization effort. The successful 
applicant will need to become very familiar with Meiko Solaris 2.x 
internals and will need to work closely with Livermore Computing 
Systems, Customer Services, and Operations groups; system users and 
Meiko support personnel to characterize problems and test, debug, 
stabilize and tune the operating system and its interactions with 
other Meiko MPP operating software. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
n Rapidly gain a significant understanding of the Meiko Solaris 2.x 
operating system.
n Work closely with Meiko support personnel and developers to 
stabilize the operating system for use in a high work load production 
MPP computing environment.
n Work with Meiko and other vendors to develop and improve system 
tools and utilities.
n Recommend and implement system configuration changes to improve 
reliability and stability.
n Monitor the system for performance and reliability and proactively 
handle problems as they arise.
n Develop kernel debug schedules.
n Interact regularly with customers, computer operational staff and 
Meiko support personnel to identify issues and actively characterize 
and resolve problems.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:	
n BS/MS in computer science or a related field.
n Demonstrated C programming experience in a UNIX environment.
n In depth knowledge of operating system principles and programming 
techniques.
n Experience working in a team environment.
n Experience working independently on technical projects.
n Excellent communications skills.
n Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to a rapidly 
changing environment.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
n Knowledge of Solaris 2.x internals and operating system implementation.
n Broad understanding of the technologies inherent in MPP or cluster 
computing.
n An understanding of MPP kernel algorithms and their impact on 
reliability and performance.
n Experience working with Solaris device drivers.
n Experience with the Meiko CS-2 system is an obvious plus. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:	This position involves working with a total of 
three systems, one of which is classified, so the successful 
applicant should either have a current US Department of  Energy Q 
clearance, or have the potential to obtain this security clearance. 
This means that applicants must be US citizens. US residence 
qualifications are not sufficient for DOE security clearance.
