 I am having problems adding new hosts in pvm. When I try to add a host,
 I get the error message "Can't start pvmd". I've looked in the PVM
 faq and have tried all of the suggestions. The rsh seems to be working,
 for when I enter "rsh hostname $PVM_ROOT/lib/pvmd -s", I get the error
 messages: slave_config: bad args, pvmbailout(0). When I look in the
 pvm log file after trying unsuccessfully to add a host I get the error
 messages:

         pvmd@hostname: PVM_ROOT:
         pvmd@hostname: Undefined variable.
         pl_startup() pvmd@hostname: EOF
         startack() host hostname expected version

 I do not know what these error messages mean. I have tested the $PVM_ROOT
 environment variable on all computers. $PVM_ROOT is defined and I can
 start up pvm on each computer.

 If anyone could provide some insight, I would really appreciate it.

This is cropping up again and again on this group. I had the same problem
and gave up in frustration after getting nowhere for weeks. Is there any
definitive answer to this problem ?
