I wrote a paper with Brian Grant about PVM and MPI for Supercomputing'93,
called "Message Passing in the 1990's: Performance, Safety, Correctness."
Given 18 months more experience, I am (by myself) working on a new paper
along these lines, probably to be used as a book chapter.

PS Our MIT Press book has a "Dusty Deck" chapter that compares most message
passing systems with MPI. I recommend it to your attention.
