I think the problem is that your earlier pvmd is still hanging at
all those hosts.

To remove them,

 1) kill all jobs (pvmd) on each and every host
 2) on all those hosts, there will be files called "pvm*"
    e.g. pvm4059 etc. in the directory /tmp.
    Remove them
 3) NOw put all the hosts in "hostfile" and run "pvm"
     at "master" host.
