The Annual Simulation Symposium is a forum for the interchange of ideas,
techniques, and applications among practitioners of simulation in industry,
government, and academia. This international Symposium is the oldest 
continuously operating conference/symposium dedicated to simulation. 
The paper sessions are designed to generate a discussion of concepts, 
methodology, and results between authors and the audience. The structure 
of the Symposium also provides for a degree of collegiality and continuity
in the discussions on various topics presented during the week.

Arizona has among some of the most spectacular sights in natural history and 
is known all over the world for its magnificent desert scenery. The Grand 
Canyon, one of the wonders of the world, in northern Arizona ranks as one of
the more popular sites but there many other treasures of natural history as 
well.

During the greater part of the year, most of Arizona enjoys excellent sunny 
weather and low humidity. The average temperatures range from 50 degrees 
Farenheit in the south to the low 20s and 30s in the mountainous northern 
region. The summers bring temperatures of 90 and 100 degrees in the south to
an average of 70 degrees in the north. 

Phoenix is the state capital and largest city in Arizona. It ranks 8 among
the largest cities in the United States and ranks among the fastest growing. 
The population is over a million with more than twice that amount when 
considering the population of the surrounding towns. With an average of 300
days of sunshine a year, Phoenix has a significant number of retired people. 
The Phoenix Metropolitan area is often called the "Valley of the Sun".

Phoenix is surrounded by mountains. Some mountains and hills even appear in 
the middle of the valley such as Squaw Peak. Camelback Mountain provides 
another landmark northeast of the downtown area. The South Mountains offer
a great deal of land for camping, hiking and picnicking. There are also the
Sierra Estrellas to the southwest and the White Tank mountains to the west.
The Superstition range lies to the east. The highest peaks are in the 
northeast in the Mazatzals.

The City of Phoenix is also surrounded by several other cities and towns, 
namely Peoria, Sun City, Glendale, Tolleson, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, 
Gilbert, Mesa, and Paradise Valley.
