Hi all,

Hope someone can help me on this 'cos it's real urgent.

I am trying to configure a pvm virtual machine on a network
of SUN SPARCclassics. I need to connect up to 30 of them together.
The classics all run Solaris 2.3, and I am using pvm 3.3.6.

Problem is, when I try to add a particular remote host to my
virtual machine at the pvm console, it simply says 'cannot start
pvmd'. This happen even when I have checked that the remote host
does not already have a copy of pvmd3 running, and that it does not
have the pvmd.UID file in /tmp.

The following is extracted from the /tmp/pvml.UID file on the master
host (the remote host is ssc02) :

[t80040000] ready 3.3.6 Sat Jan 28 20:31:19 1995
[t80040000] startack() host ssc02 expected version

A check on the remote host ssc02 _after_ the pvm console reported
the failure shows that it _has_ a copy of pvmd3 running, and has the
/tmp/pvmd.UID file present. The pvml.UID file on the remote host says :

[t80080000] ready 3.3.6 Sat Jan 28 20:41:12 1995

which obviously shows that pvmd3 was started successfully there.

So I did a 'kill -15' to kill the pvmd3 process on the remote host, and
also deleted the pvmd.UID file on it. Then I tried to add it again.
This time the /tmp/pvml.UID file on the master host reads :

[t80040000] netinput() bogus pkt from 137.132.89.132:33613
[t80040000] startack() host ssc02 expected version

and again the message says 'cannot start pvmd'.

Can anyone figure out what went wrong?
This same thing happened for more than 10 different hosts that I tried
to add, so I am quite certain that it is not perculiar to one particular
remote host only.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am really desperate.
