There is no "pvmfs". PVM uses the host's file system (usually UNIX) so
you get whatever file locking semantics are provided by the host OS.

This question, and the question about PVM's "scheduler", suggest that
some people are under the impression that PVM is an operating system.
It is not. PVM is a message passing library that has been ported to a
number of workstation and MPP operating systems. Except for message
passing, all other services are provided by the host operating system.
