Technical Support Analyst
Mathematics and Computer Science Division
Argonne National Laboratory


Argonne National Laboratory invites outstanding candidates to apply for a 
technical support analyst position in the Mathematics and Computer 
Science Division.  The appointment is for one year and may be renewed. 

The selected candidate will participate in the technical support, 
operation, and user support of the divisional computational 
infrastructure and the High-Performance Computing Research Facility in 
order to increase the productivity of the scientific and administrative 
staff.  Special emphasis for this position will be to provide advanced 
networking, graphics, and desktop video support.

This position requires considerable knowledge of and expertise in UNIX 
system support and administration. and considerable knowledge of PC 
systems and PC network administration.  Also required are skill with 
systems administration tools and languages and knowledge and expertise in 
networking/distributed computing environments.  The requisite level of 
knowledge and skills is typically achieved through formal education to 
the master's degree level in computer science and 0-2 years of experience 
in a scientific support position within a research environment.

The Mathematics and Computer Science Division supports an advanced 
computational environment that includes high-performance scientific 
workstations, a scientific visualization and virtual reality laboratory, 
and state-of-the-art parallel computers.  The centerpiece of Argonne's 
current parallel computing environment is an IBM Scalable POWERparallel 
(SP) system.  This innovative machine is based on IBMs powerful RS/6000 
technology and features 128 processors, each with 128 megabytes of 
memory.
