SGI is pleased to announce the 2.0 release of its MPI implementation for the
Challenge and Power Challenge family of machines. This release provides
substantial performance improvements in host-to-host communication over our
1.0 release from last September, but can also be used to run MPI applications
completely within a single machine. Features include:

	- host-to-host latency of ~110 usecs
	- host-to-host bandwidth of ~92 MB/sec on a single HIPPI board
	- automatic striping of large messages across up to four HIPPI boards,
for a sustained bandwidth of up to ~330 MB/sec

Best of all, it's free.

The MPI 2.0 release requires IRIX 6.2 and runs on 64-bit mips3 or mips4 systems.
(Note that "2.0" is simply SGI's own release number and does *not* refer to the
MPI-2 proposal that is currently being developed by the MPI Forum.)
