POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE DIVISION
ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY

Argonne National Laboratory invites outstanding candidates to apply for an open
postdoctoral position in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division. Candidates
should have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related discipline, with a background
in parallel or distributed software tools, software design, and implementation.

The successful candidate will participate in projects developing next-generation
software technologies for scientific computing in high-performance parallel and
distributed environments. Relevant information is available on the Web at
http://www.mcs.anl.gov/globus/ and http://www.mcs.anl.gov/mpi/. Candidates should
have experience with application development on parallel or distributed computer
systems, C programming, the Message Passing Interface, and wide area computing.
Familiarity with high-performance networking, resource scheduling techniques,
security technologies, high-performance file systems, and/or Fortran is also
desirable.

The Mathematics and Computer Science Division supports an excellent computational
environment that includes access to state-of-the-art parallel computers, a
scientific visualization and virtual reality laboratory, and high-performance
scientific workstations. In 1995, the division played a leading role in the I-WAY
national-scale distributed computing experiment (http://www.iway.org/), and similar
wide area computing experiments continue.

Argonne is located in the southwestern Chicago suburbs, offering the advantages of
affordable housing and good schools, as well as easy access to the cultural
attractions of the city.

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. not more than three years prior to the
beginning of the appointment. The appointment is available immediately and for a
one-year term (renewable). Applications should be addressed to Walter McFall, Box
mcs-118263, Employment and Placement, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 S. Cass
Avenue, Argonne, IL 60439, and must include a resume and the names and addresses of
three references. For additional information, contact Ian Foster
(foster@mcs.anl.gov, 708-252-4619).

Argonne is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
