POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT 

 	     RESEARCH ASSISTANT FOR PARALLEL COMPUTATION

Subject to final negotiations between the University of Arizona and
ARPA, funds will be available through a grant to support a graduate
student (with degree objective of M.Sc. or Ph.D.) for three years in
research on parallel computation for simulating an advanced casting
process. The research consists of adapting an existing simulator (in
Fortran code) to execute on a cluster of Sun Sparc/Solaris workstations
running the MPI parallel programming environment (MPICH or LAM).

The ideal candidate can be in any mathematical or physical science or
any engineering discipline and knowledgeable in the following areas:

	1) The Unix operating system and its software development tools;
 
 	2) The Sun Solaris environment;
 
 	3) Fortran 77;
 
 	4) A parallel programming environment implementing message
 	passing protocols (e.g. PVM, Linda, or MPI);
 
 	5) Numerical methods.
 	
Knowledge of the physics of solidification processes is desirable but
not essential.
