IBM SUR Cluster User Support Manager - Parallel Programer

This position will be responsible for direct user support for the 
University of Minnesota-IBM Shared Research Project. The facility 
includes a cluster of IBM RS6000 workstations and a ten-node IBM SP

It is expected that the person that fills this position will take a 
proactive approach in communicating the unique research potential of 
the IBM Cluster computing factilities to the University community.

Duties will involve: 

50% Direct user support for parallel programming and cluster utilization. 
       Interact with users on a one-to-one basis to enable them to solve 
       the computational portion of research projects in an effective 
       and efficient manner. Respond to user questions and problems. 

25% Documentation and training. 
       Maintain web pages, publish newsletters, present tutorials and 
       workshops, and other activities that highlight parallel 
       programming techniques and related software as well as new system 
       features & facilities. 

20% Strategic planning, evaluation and maintenance of software base. 
       Research currently available IBM & third party parallel programming 
       tools including message-passing systems, debuggers, & parallel 
       compilers and recommend for purchase. Work with the Cluster System 
       Manager and a committee from various University depts to establish 
       policies and procedures for the appropiate use of the compuational 
       resources. 

5% User account/resource allocation management. 
       Add/remove users from the system. Keep accounting records 
       describing researcher use of the resources (eg parallel vs 
       serial jobs).

Essential Employee Qualifications Requested:
(Education/Training/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities) 

     o College graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or 
       a field utilizing scientific computation with an emphasis on 
       parallel computing. 
     o 5 years experience in high-perfomance computing environment 
       including at least 2 years in parallel computing. 
     o Strong oral and written communication skills (English). 
     o US citizen or permanent resident.

Selection criteria to include: 

     o Parallel programming experience in C and Fortran, 
       preferably F90 and HPF 
     o Experience in porting, analyzing and optimizing parallel programs 
     o Recent experience in installing, maintaining and using 
       message-passing libraries including PVM and/or MPI 
     o Recent experience using AIX on an RS6000 cluster and/or SP system 
     o Demonstrated user support experience in a high-performance 
       computing environment 
     o Familiarity with high-speed networking (eg ATM) 
     o Ability to work well with people
