Dear Sir:

We are about to buy HPs for around $ 50,000.

We do not know which option is best.
	1- 712
	2- 715
	3- D series up to 2 CPUs
	4- K series up to 4 CPUs

We could buy five 712s or we could buy one K series machine with 4 processors.

The 712s will be soon outdated and have only 32 bit processors. The processors
for D or K series could be upgraded to 64 bits.

The D or K series are single machines (if broken we are stuck). If one 712/715
machine is down, we can still work with only 4 machines.

The D or K series will allow us to run simple fortran code in a parallel
fashion with little effort.

Communication vs computation time? With D/K machines the communication time
is faster than network of five 712s.

Finally, we already have two 715s (we got them a year ago).

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Housam BINOUS.
