LAM 6.0, a major upgrade of Ohio Supercomputer Center's MPI implementation
for UNIX-based clusters, is now available via anonymous ftp from ftp.osc.edu.

Among the new features are:

o an early implementation of MPI process spawning

o MPI communication that bypasses LAM's daemon, for optimal
exploitation of underlying hardware, and a narrow portability
interface that allows this capability to be retargetted to
	  other platforms

o dynamic addition and deletion of LAM nodes, for resource
	  managed environments

o fault (node crash) tolerance, in LAM and MPI, for mission
	  critical applications

o execution tracing for debugging and/or performance visualization
	  with XMPI 2.0

o enhanced mpitask and mpimsg tools: runtime examination of
derived datatypes, group membership and message contents

	o standard support for LINUX

LAM 6.0 runs out-of-the-box on IP networks connecting any of the
following systems in any combination.

	o Sun, SunOS 4.1.3, 5.4
	o SGI, IRIX 5.3, 6.1
	o IBM, AIX version 3, release 2
	o DEC, OSF/1 V3.2
	o HP, HP-UX 10.01
	o Intel X86, LINUX v1.3.20

Ohio Supercomputer Center has a lengthly record of developing
full-scale, production HPC software tools, created with the expertise
of professional software engineers and with the influence of a
diverse user community. In LAM 6.0 we great take pride not only
in the features old and new, but in the engineering quality of our
product, inside and out.

Distribution of LAM 6.0 is supported in part by the National Science
Foundation under grant CCR-9510016.
