There's a lot of (free, portable) MPI implementations around.  See
http://www.mcs.anl.gov/mpi for more info.  I've only used MPICH in the past.
You can get it via anonymous FTP from info.mcs.anl.gov in the directory
/pub/mpi (get the file mpich.tar.Z).
