About the posting, several sites are developing infrastructure for large,
data-intensive computations: hence the references to parallel
communication between disk, tertiary storage, etc. These are truly M-to-N
problems; e.g., N processors of a parallel database trying to read from M
channels of a tertiary storage system. It is desirable to have a
common interface for this technology -- it would greatly increase the
interoperability of the various resources.

Some MPI Forum members have been requesting input on "needs and desired
capabilities". For example, Rusty and Bill are very interested in any
implications for their "dynamic processes" work.

So, I posted the table as a summary various conversations; as a gentle
reminder to Rusty, Bill, and Tony; and to gather feedback from other
members of the community such as yourself.
