Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, part of The University of Edinburgh, and
Cray Research have collaborated to produce a robust, complete, and high
performance implementation of MPI for the T3D. There will be a product
availability announcement from Cray real soon now, which will answer more or
less all of your questions. In brief, the software will be
distributed from Edinburgh and will be available to all T3D sites, the software
will be free, and sites will be able to buy at low cost a support package on
an annual basis.

The MPI implementation which I think you have been using was also written within
this project as a demonstrator of MPI on the T3D. It was implemented in short
order atop PVM and is just intended to provide a bare-bones of facilities without
too much concern over performance. We refer to this as the "interim"
implementation. The "final" implementation (referred to in previous para.) bears
no relation to the interim implementation. It is implemented atop SHMEM. It has
much better performance characteristics. It is a complete implementation (except
for some details of the profile interface).

Best Wishes
Lyndon
